Born in Angola, raised in Portugal, with a career spanning Lisbon, Luanda, and Maputo with over 18 years of professional experience, telling stories that matter. Mauro is a filmmaker defined by versatility, specialized in “Communication for Development” (C4D). His approach transforms complex socioeconomic indicators into human-centric narratives, blending institutional rigor in cinematic storytelling with a deep commitment to social impact across Europe and Lusophone Africa, creating high-impact visual narratives for global organizations, including IFAD, UNICEF, and the European Union. Over the past decade, he has led major advertising campaigns for renowned Angolan brands and directed three feature-length documentaries commissioned by the Angolan government, as well as dozens of institutional films for leading private companies, and developed a narrative visual language focused on humanizing complex themes, to mobilize international donors and increase accountability for global organizations in the development and international cooperation sector. I'm an audiovisual storyteller, filmmaker and producer who loves being out in the world, meeting people, discovering places, and finding the stories that make them worth looking at a little closer. One of the experiences that shaped me most was a six-month journey from Alaska to Patagonia in a van, filming landscapes, wildlife and the life unfolding along the way. It reminded me how much I enjoy the whole process: being in the field, paying attention, figuring things out with whatever is available, and turning those experiences into stories that make people feel something. My background combines filming, directing, editing, writing and production management, along with the practical side of making things happen: logistics, driving, scouting, administration, cooking and helping a team get through whatever the day brings. I'm comfortable wearing different hats, learning from people with more experience, and getting my hands dirty when that's what the job requires. I'm especially drawn to documentary, wildlife, nature and human stories. I'd love to keep growing in that direction, working alongside talented crews, contributing wherever I'm most useful, and learning from the people who do this work exceptionally well.
